Ortofon cartridgeThe Ortofon was initially discovered in 1918 by two Danish engineers, Arnold Poulsen and Axel Petersen. The cartridge is the modern day invention of a device that has up scaled music listening from the regular and normal listening to listening in fun, style and sophistication. DJs worldwide value the importance of cartridges as this device determines the realization of a live performance as the major part of the event.

Scratching and back-cueing imposes a heavy mechanical burden on the rubber bearing and the cantilever. To minimize this slight glitch, the Ortofon cartridges are fitted with cantilevers manufactured from aluminum tube with magnificent wall thickness. We shall later on look at the components of this amazing gadget.

It is worth noting that special attention has been paid to ensuring the protection from damage of the cartridge in any rough treatment that may degrade its stability. This is just some of the reasons why it has tickled my fancy and is applauded by DJs and avid music lovers alike around the world.

The cartridge is made up of three core components: the cantilever, the part on which the stylus is mounted, the stylus that traces the groove of the record and the generating system which converts the motion of the stylus and the cantilever into electrical copies of the sound which can thereafter be amplified and reproduced by the music system.

This device is certainly a must have for anyone looking for quality in sound production as it is a very excellent tool that would suitably cater to anyone with an entry to mid level system. Rock, oldies, disco or jazz is well handled with surety and confidence by this device.

The features of this quality piece of technological art include but not limited to; a channel balance of roughly 2kHz 15 dB,peak voltage output at 1000Hz, 5cm/Sec. 5,5 mg, frequency at – 8db 25-25.0 Hz, ability to track at 325Hz at a suitable tracking force of 80 um, Nude Elliptical, tracking force range 2, 5-2′ 0g (16-20 mm), load resistance 47 KOhm and cartridge weight 7, 2 g.

The Ortofon cartridge is quite an invaluable piece of gadget to own so, it is quite important that you maintain it in the right manner in order to increase its lifespan. To care for the stylus and recording order to maintain high and quality sound production, the following is recommended prior to and after every play back.

Clean off any dust skillfully from the record surfaces by using a fine antistatic cloth or brush before any usage. Solvents of any kind are not recommended in the cleaning  of either the stylus or the record surface. Only when necessary, can you wash the records in lukewarm demineralized water with a bit of symphonic soap and any detergents used should be environmentally friendly and without lather.

Cleaning the stylus can be done by use of the carbon fiber brush some few times along the cantilever in the direction of the stylus whenever playing a new record or change sides. This will help in ensuring that all normal dust and most of the slick release agent is gotten rid of from the new record. I would recommend the Ortofon cartridge to any DJ who values professionalism and would want to stay ahead of the pack. It is a total must have and worth every penny!
